Tasked to create a market within the heart of the Junction Triangle in Toronto, I drew inspiration from the site itself. Identifying the lack of congregation spaces and connectivity as well as flourishment of unique stores. The Market is meant to embody and be experienced as a journey through the junction triangle, becoming a major hub, creating a space for congregation and connectivity. Meeting Bloor is a parkette and ramp that runs down toward the street, creating a gradual connection from the busy sidewalk to the calm pedestrian-oriented pathway. Making our way to the site, we immediately gravitated towards the bike path along the GO station and retaining wall along the underpass, as a major connecting point that could enhance the junction. As the market goers reach the top, they are met with a set of large garage doors that open into the market. The market is layered where each level represents parts of the journey through the junction, the stalls plays along with this ideology through the use of drastic cuts to encourage visitors to wander.
