Re-imagining the vernacular barn typology across Europe. Inspired less by the quintessential use of barns as a storage place for food, livestock and equipment, but rather takes precedent from its domestic program as an integrated structure for both dwelling and occupation. These barns consisted of living quarters, common quarters and stables; a clear programmatic resemblance to the EuroVelo stops today, if only re-inhabited by cyclists.

Inspired by the archetypal aisled barn, consisting of timber frames and a stone wall. These two materials become a prominent feature, grounding the design to the landscape following traditional building methods and use of local materials. In doing so, the modular design combines a sense of seclusion yet openness throughout the structure. Ultimately questions the temporality of architecture through its structure and seeks to embody the vernacular experience through the materiality.
